Mwingi central MP Joe Mutambu has warned Wiper Democratic Movement Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka not to ignore the ultimatum they that four MPs from Ukambani gave him to convene a meeting to discuss the region’s political direction two weeks ago.

The Wiper rebel MP said if Mr Musyoka will disregard the ultimatum, he would risk becoming unpopular in the region he has been enjoying command as the political kingpin for decades.

Mr Mutambu termed as baseless remarks which were uttered by the party leader and Cord co-principal during Mashujaa Day Celebrations at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos town, last Thursday where he candidly  told President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto that the recent defections of his MPs to Jubilee did not worry him as the MPs would not be re-elected.

Musyoka said he no longer needed the defectors, adding that he had let go the MPs. However, he quickly warned them that they would be punished by the voters.  He also told off the defectors and cautioned them to stop issuing ultimatums to him but instead direct them to President Kenya whom he said is now their party leader.

But Mr Mutambu who spoke to the media after issuing title deeds to his constituents at Waita market on Friday dismissed Mr Musyoka’s threats saying said he was not cowed by his utterances, arguing that the opposition leader had no moral authority to decide on whom the electorates in Ukambani should pick as their leaders.

He said the one month ultimatum MPS Kisoi Munyao (Mbooni), Francis Mwangangi (Yatta), Richard Makenga (Kaiti) and himself gave to Mr Musyoka was not meant for the Wiper party but the entire Ukambani people to decide their political future ahead of the 2017 general elections.
“We issued our notice to Mr Musyoka so that he could call the Kamba people to define the community’s political destiny. If he fails to heed to our ultimatum by November 15, and then let him not blame anyone, we would not recognize him after the expiry of our ultimatum,” Said Mr Mutambu.

The renegade lawmaker said Mr Musyoka was unable to lead Kenya as the head of state. “If he has failed to unite only three counties in Ukambani how will it be possible for him to handle all the 47 counties,” asked Mr Mutambu. He expressed fears that the Wiper Party might be fail to secure Kitui, Makueni and Machakos gubernatorial posts.

The legislator  said massive defections of politicians from the Wiper party was a clear indication the outfit had lost grip and command in Ukambani and its frontrunner, Mr Musyoka was unable to clinch the Presidency. He said the region was ready to overwhelmingly support President Kenyatta’s re-election bid.

Mr Mutambu vowed to work tirelessly to ensure Mr Kenyatta wins a basketful of votes from Mr Musyoka backyard. “I want to assure Mr Musyoka that in 2017 I will win back my seat and that I will still be the MP for Mwingi Central. I will also campaign for President Kenyatta and make sure he wins votes in Ukambani,” he said.

The first time legislator bashed at the opposition leader for what he said was “dragging politics into a national celebration" terming the move as disrespectful to the institution of the Presidency. “It was wrong for him to bring political party issues at the national event. It was uncalled for such utterances to come from a leader like him,” said Mr Mutambu.
